Accountable action

Turn a financial signal into useful work.

Move from a number that needs attention to an action someone can own, review and complete.

The working principle

A signal is a reason to investigate. A useful action states the evidence, the next step, the owner and how progress will be checked.

01

Confirm what the number represents

Before acting on a margin, receivables balance or cash forecast, confirm its reporting period, basis and source. A missing value is different from a confirmed zero. Cash on hand is a point-in-time balance; revenue describes activity across a period.

The workspace keeps those details alongside financial inputs. Use them to make the observation precise enough to discuss with the people who know the business.

02

Treat a suggested intervention as a starting point

The current platform uses explicit financial rules to surface relevant playbooks. It does not know every commercial relationship, contractual commitment or operational dependency in your business.

Review the reason for the suggestion and the information behind it. Decide whether the action fits the situation, what else must be checked and whether a qualified adviser should be involved. A rule-based signal is not a diagnosis or a guaranteed remedy.

03

Write an action with a clear next step

Replace a broad intention with a task that can be assigned and reviewed. Keep the task small enough that the owner can report what happened.

  • Observation: what fact or uncertainty prompted the action?
  • Next step: what specific work needs to happen?
  • Owner: who is responsible for moving it forward?
  • Due date: when will the next step be reviewed?
  • Evidence: what would show progress or completion?
04

Separate work completed from value realized

A price review, supplier conversation or collection call is an activity. A confirmed change in cash or margin is an outcome. Record each accurately so that the review does not confuse effort with result.

Use the action notes and realized-cash field for observed results, with a date and explanation. Avoid counting the same cash movement across several actions. Leave an outcome unconfirmed when the evidence is not yet available.

05

Revisit the priority as the facts change

At weekly review, decide whether the action still addresses the current constraint. Continue it, revise it or close it with a reason. Keep the explanation visible so the next person can understand the decision.

When several dependencies cross functions or the owner needs help with execution, the same action plan can provide a concrete starting point for a support or consulting conversation.
